Our Environment
At AIC Mines, environmental stewardship is integrated into every stage of our operations – from exploration and development, to production and closure. We strive to minimise our environmental footprint by adopting responsible practices in energy use, emissions reduction, water management, biodiversity protection, and waste handling.
Our operations are designed to maximise resource efficiency and reduce impact. We actively monitor environmental risks, comply with stringent regulatory standards, and pursue opportunities to rehabilitate disturbed land, reduce emissions, and increase water reuse. Our approach includes regular environmental assessments, robust approvals processes, and alignment with emerging best practice frameworks such as the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).
At our Eloise Copper Mine, we operate closed-loop water systems that minimise freshwater use and prioritise water recycling. Our tailings management approach is centred on long-term stability, progressive rehabilitation, and ongoing risk assessment.
FY25 GHG Emissions
Our preliminary FY25 emissions data reflect our expanded operations incorporating Jericho for the first time across the full year. Total energy consumption was 970,471 GJ, with Scope 1 emissions of 53,693 tCO2-e and Scope 2 emissions of 18 tCO2-e (total: 53,712 tCO2-e, subject to final confirmation). We are also mapping our Scope 3 emissions inventory, with the first-year inventory to be completed in FY26.
Decarbonisation Progress
Key environmental initiatives underway include:
- Continued progress on CopperString 2032 connection — scheduled to reach Cloncurry by 2029 — which would provide access to the national electricity grid and renewable energy for site
- Commissioning of our first hybrid Caterpillar R2900 XE loader, offering over 31% improved fuel efficiency compared to its predecessor, with a second unit on order
- Feasibility assessments for onsite renewable energy generation and storage options (wind, solar, battery), alongside efficiency improvements at the existing power station
- Continued annual NGERS reporting
- Natural revegetation trial on capped tailings storage facilities — species richness increased approximately 25% year-on-year
